Phthalates

Sex toys come in a huge variety of materials, however, not all of them are necessarily safe. During the period of 1998 – 2002 there were lots of concerns regarding the health issues associated with phthalates. While there is no substantiated evidence regarding whether or not phthalates cause damage to the human body, most manufacturers are now opting not to include them in sex toys due to the intimate contact.

Phthalates are present in an enormous variety of different products and are oil like chemicals used in the production of plastic based goods to increase flexibility. They are not only used in sex toys, and can be found in everything from food packaging through to nail varnish! Realistically, the chances of negative side effects are negligible and the chances of catching an infection from an improperly cleaned sex toy are many times greater. One issue which does affect sex toys containing phthalates is perishing over time, however, the only toys which still really contain phthalates are the so called ‘jelly’ toys. Despite this, we do steer clear of selling sex toys which could be considered dangerous, apart from our whips, but then they are dangerous in a good way!!
